Fantastic Stories of the Imagination is seeking original speculative fiction stories up to a maximum of 3,000 words in length. Fantastic Stories publishes original and reprinted science fiction and fantasy short stories
The editors want to see submissions of stores that cover the entire science fiction and fantasy spectrum. They’ll consider everything from magic realism to hard SF, as long as the story surprises them, features diverse characters, and takes them to unexpected places.
Let your imagination take you on a journey as you push the boundaries of the speculative fiction genre. Rather than the editors trying to tell you what they don’t want, they would prefer to see great stories that make them want to buy, regardless of how many of their rules the story might violate.
Payment is 15 cents US per word on acceptance for original stories. Payment for reprints is 1 cent per word.
All original stories purchased will be licensed for the web, as well as a print version of the magazine, an e-version of the magazine, and two annual anthologies.
Response times are usually within two weeks, however if you haven’t received a response from the editors within eight weeks, please query.
It’s recommended that authors read a previous issue of the magazine to get a feel for the type of short stories the editors prefer. You can download a previous issue for free here: https://gumroad.com/l/OkOIq
